TYPES OF WAGONS

Covered wagon – freight wagon for the transport of goods that require protection from weathering and mechanical damage. Universal covered wagons are intended for the transportation of packaged, piece, bulk, etc.
 Special covered wagons are used to transport livestock and poultry, cars, paper in rolls, cold-rolled steel in rolls and packs, apatite concentrate, and other goods. All covered cars have chassis, shock and traction devices and brakes, typical for freight cars.

Gondola – a railway freight wagon open without a roof with high sides, designed to carry bulk cargoes (ore, coal, fluxes, timber, etc.), containers, and other goods that do not require protection from precipitation.
 The gondola body generally has no roof (there are models with a removable roof), which provides ease of loading and unloading cargo. The gondola wagon can have unloading hatches in the floor and drop-down end walls or a solid body.

A tank container is a multi-modal transport unit intended for the transport of liquid chemical and food products, as well as liquefied gases by three modes of transport: sea (river), rail and road. Transportation in tank containers is carried out using the “door-to-door” technology without an intermediate overflow of the product when changing the mode of transport, which ensures enhanced transportation safety and safety of the transported cargo.
 An additional advantage is the ability to quickly transfer tank containers from one type of transport to another, eliminating the overloading of products at loading terminals.

The refrigerator wagon is a universal covered structure designed to transport perishable goods. To keep the quality of the goods transported allows refrigeration. This category of equipment is included in the class of isothermal rolling stock, mainly used for the transport of food over a distance of more than 500 kilometers.

Hopper wagon is a self-unloading bunker freight car for the transport of bulk dry goods: coal, ore, cement, grain, ballast. The body has the shape of a funnel, in the lower part there are hatches through which the cargo is poured out during unloading under the action of gravity, which contributes to quick unloading. There are two main types of hoppers – open and closed.
Closed are used for those goods that must be protected from precipitation. The open ones are used to transport goods that can be easily dried without harmful consequences.

Railway platforms designed for transporting timber are provided with flooring and end boards. Otherwise, it is impossible to transport such cargo. The railway platforms for the transport of wheeled vehicles and containers are also equipped in the same way. The railway platforms for long-distance car transportation also have their own characteristics. Their body consists of specially fixed frames, a guide and metal flooring. Such a wagon platform has on the ends of the folding platform ramps, designed for driving cars.

Tanks are designed for the carriage of liquid, gaseous and pulverized goods that are placed in the boiler, which is a specific body shape of wagons of this type. A significant variety of goods causes significant modifications of tank designs.
 On the railways, the mass of liquid cargo transported in the tank is determined not by weighing, as in other types of wagons, but by the measuring and calibration method. To do this, measure the filling height of the boiler, take into account the density of the load, and then, using special calibration tables, in which the capacity of the boiler is shown depending on the level of its filling, calculate the weight of the load.
